In commemoration of Youth day June 16, the African Democratic Institute (ADI) organized a Youth Day Debate on the 17th of June 2016 at Basa Tutorial Institute in Johannesburg. Four teams consisting of Basa Tutorial Institute, Phoenix College, Jeppe Education Centre and Freedom College debated on issues addressing the feasibility of free tertiary education in South Africa and the necessity of multilingualism in schools. Basa Tutorial Institute emerged as the overall winner of the debate. The Youth Day debate brought an opportunity to celebrate the creative force and the innovative impetus that young people bring in South Africa. ADI recognizes the role the youth played in fighting apartheid and their contribution to democracy in South Africa as they celebrate the youth of 1976 who stunned South Africa and the world with their extraordinary courage.
