In commemoration of Youth Month, the African Democratic Institute (ADI) convened its annual Youth Day Debate on the 15th June 2017 at Basa Tutorial Institute in Johannesburg. Four teams consisting of Basa Tutorial Institute, Phoenix College, New Model College and Freedom College debated on issues addressing the rise of private schools and whether all schools should be compelled to have permanent counsellors. Phoenix College emerged as the overall winners of the debate. The annual ADI Youth Day Debate allowed for the opportunity to celebrate the creative force and the innovative impetus that young people bring to South Africa.
ADI recognizes the role the youth played in fighting apartheid and their contribution to democracy in South Africa as we celebrate the youth of 1976 who stunned South Africa and the world with their extraordinary courage.
